Church History

A history of Christalaya Congregations is tied into the beginnings of the ACTS Institute, which is a model of Christian witness.

ACTS Institute began as a vision given to Dr. Ken Gnanakan in May 1977 during his doctoral studies. The vision was a direct result of reading the book of Acts, in apostle Peter's words in Acts 3:6 "Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk." This is the description of the early church in practical demonstration of the love of the Lord Jesus Christ. ACTS Institute began in July 1979 to implement this vision that God gave to Dr. Ken Gnanakan.

The ACTS programmes consist of three major components - Bible Study, Vocational Training and Practical Outreach. Students who come to ACTS were exposed to this wholistic training and as a result of the practical outreach, many put their trust in Jesus Christ. They were formed into small house groups.

Christialaya Congregations was established in 1984 as a fellowship to nurture men, women and children who committed their lives as disciples of Christ. Over the years a number of congregations were established to fulfil the vision of Christalaya. We have congregations that worship in Kannada, English, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam. Christalaya congregations is a growing fellowship of churches. There are 15 Congregations working in different parts of Bangalore.
